How To Get To Gyeongju From Seoul And Gyeongju To Seoul

When going from Seoul to Gyeongju there are 2 popular options, the KTX and the express bus and one less popular option, the slow train. The way of transport will mainly depend on your budget as the price gap between the KTX and bus is quite big.

1. Seoul To Gyeongju KTX And Gyeongju To Seoul KTX

From Seoul or Yongsan Station there are regular trains running to Singyeongju station, which is the KTX train station of Gyeongju, South Korea. The station lies in the outskirts of the city, around 20 minutes by public bus.

The KTX takes around 2 hours give or take and costs around 50 000 – 60 000 krw, depending on the day. Tickets can be purchased in advance at any KTX ticket office or online. Taking the KTX is the best option if you’re looking to travel by train from Seoul to Gyeongju.

From Singyeongju to Gyeongju you can take bus 50-2, 51, 60, 60-1, 61, 61-1, 50, 70, 203, 700 or 332. All these buses stop at the Gyeongju express bus terminal. The price from Singyeongju station to Gyeongju by taxi is between 10 000 and 15 000 krw, depending on where you are going in the center of the city.

Where To Buy the Train Pass

There are 2 main websites selling the Korail pass, both for the same price. The only difference between the 2 platforms is the amount of days in advance of your trip you can buy the passes.

2. Other Trains From Seoul To Gyeongju

From Suseo Station in the Gangnam area there are SRT trains running to Gyeongju, these are less expensive than KTX tickets and take a similar amount of time to reach Gyeongju. The SRT also arrives at Singyeongju station.

Twice a day there is a slow train (Mugunghwa train) running from Cheongnyangni to Gyeongju Train Station. The ride is taking 6 hours and costs 20 000 krw. This train is arriving in Gyeongju Train Station, which lies in the city center of the Gyeongju, Korea.

3. Bus From Seoul To Gyeongju

Taking an express bus from Seoul to Gyeongju bus terminal is another good option. Direct buses are running every hour. There is one bus terminal in Seoul that has buses to Gyeongju, namely Seoul Gyeongbu.

It is recommended to buy tickets at the bus terminal as trying to buy tickets online is a big hassle. During busy days and times, buy those tickets in advance.

Get From Busan To Gyeongju And Gyeongju To Busan

Buses and trains are running between Busan and Gyeongju. The way of transport will depend on where you are located in Busan. Are you located in the north, close to Nopo bus terminal, then take the bus. Are you at Haeundae beach or central Busan, then opt for taking the slow train or KTX. The Busan to Gyeongju distance is only around 80 km, so any way of transport will take around 1 h. Going to Gyeongju will be a perfect day trip from Busan.

1. Busan To Gyeongju Bus

From Nopo Bus Station in Busan there are buses running every hour to Gyeongju bus terminal. The ride takes around 45 minutes and costs around 5000 krw, depending on the bus company.

The bus will arrive at the Express Bus terminal which is located in downtown Gyeongju and just next to the Gyeongju intercity bus terminal. From here the city center is just a 10 minute walk away.

Be Aware! In the Nopo Bus Terminal there are two different ticket offices. One for express bus and the other for the intercity bus. The intercity bus runs more frequent and is a bit cheaper too. Make sure to go to right ticket office and to double check with the sales person.

2. Busan To Gyeongju Train

There are 2 options when taking the train to Gyeongju, by KTX or by regular train.

Going from Daegu to Gyeongju and back is extremely easy, by bus or by train. The prices for both are almost the same, and going by bus is recommended as the Gyeongju bus terminal is located only a 10 minute walk from the city center.

1. Daegu To Gyeongju Train

Between Daegu and Gyeongju there are 2 types of trains running, a regular slow train and the KTX. From Dongdaegu station the KTX to Singyeongju station takes only 15 minutes and costs around 8000 won. From Singyeongju KTX station take bus 50-2, 51, 60, 60-1, 61, 61-1, 50, 70, 203, 700 or 332 to Gyeongju down town. 2. Daegu To Gyeongju Bus

From Dongdaegu bus terminal there are frequent buses running to Gyeongju express bus terminal and back. The ride takes around 50 minutes and only costs 5000 won one way. This is the easiest option when going to Gyeongju from Daegu.

Flights To Gyeongju

Gyeongju doesn’t have a commercial airport, closest airports are Daegu Airport, Ulsan Airport or Gimhae Airport. Each of these airports are well connected to Gyeongju city center.

1. Incheon Airport To Gyeongju

From Incheon Airport there are two options, take a direct express bus to Gyeongju or make your way to Seoul station and transfer to the KTX. There is no direct train connection between Incheon Airport and Gyeongju.

2. Gimhae Airport To Gyeongju

From Gimhae Airport there is a direct intercity bus running to Gyeongju Bus Station. The ride takes around 1.5h and costs 9000 krw. Buy your tickets directly at the Gimhae bus ticket office. Another option is to make your way to Busan station and take the KTX or slow train to Gyeongju.

3. Ulsan Airport To Gyeongju

From Ulsan Airport take bus 402, 112, 412 to Songdo Apart. Here change to bus 600 or 608 to Gyeongju train station. The ride takes around 1,5h and costs 2500 krw.

You can also make your way to Ulsan train or bus station and take a KTX, slow train or express bus to Gyeongju.

4. Daegu Airport To Gyeongju

From Daegu Airport make your way to Dongdaegu station by bus 401 or 101. From there transfer to the train or bus. The total ride will take around 1,5h.

Going To Gyeongju By Car

Another way to get to Gyeongju is by renting a car from the airport or other rental locations. When renting a car in Korea a valid international or Korean drivers license is needed. Things To Do In Gyeongju

When going from Busan or Seoul to Gyeongju, it is highly recommended to stay at least 2 or 3 days as there is so much to visit. There are 2 main areas in Gyeongju where the touristic sights are located, first one withing walking distance of the bus terminal and the second one close to Bomun Lake.

1. Gyeongju Bus Terminal Area

The bus terminal area or city center is the main touristic center. Therefor it is highly recommended to stay in a guesthouse or hotel in this area. The best places to visit are the Unknown Tomb, the Tumuli Park, Cheomseongdae Observatory, Gyerim Forest, Wolji Pond, the National Museum of Gyeongju and Gyochon Village. All these locations lie within walking distance of each other and can be discovered in one day.

2. Bomun Lake Area

The second touristic area is located near Bomun Lake. Bomun is a touristic complex, very popular among local Koreans. Many resorts, museums and theme parks are located along the lake. For foreign tourits, Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto are the most interesting sights.
