About The Brand: AXIS-Y

AXIS-Y is an eco-friendly skincare brand hailing from Seoul, South Korea. The skincare specialists in AXIS-Y emphasize the importance of understanding the effects of the climate on our skin and how our individual skin type reacts to the climate.

That is why AXIS-Y has taken a narrower approach to skincare; they are dedicated to solving specific skin issues, creating a brand that is more friendly, and products that are more personal.

In particular, AXIS-Y has focused the R&D for the 611 product line to help people with oily and acne-prone skin to help balance their skin and provide ample protection in humid climates.

Why Use Physical Sunscreen?

Nowadays, many of us rely on chemical sunscreens. But this might be a good time to revisit physical sunscreens and their benefits.

Physical sunscreens use minerals (instead of chemical ingredients) to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays. These minerals remain on the surface of the skin and deflect the harmful rays. How is that different from the chemical sunscreens? Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the UV rays, rather than reflecting them.

There are some debates about the safety of chemicals in the chemical sunscreens and the scientists are currently studying the possible effects of oxybenzone on our health (pregnant and women who are nursing a child in particular). Another big concern is the environmental effects of these chemicals; oxybenzone which is used in some chemical sunscreens has been a factor in the destruction of the coral reefs (sometimes called the rainforests of the sea).

The minerals used in physical sunscreens are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. They sit on the skin surface and do not absorb into the body so they are less irritating and suitable for sensitive skin types. So far, the studies seem to suggest they are more environmentally friendly than the chemical sunscreens.

Now let’s move on and have a closer look at the AXIS-Y sunscreen.

1. Purpose

AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen is a mineral sunscreen (SPF50+, PA++++) that protects your skin against UVA and UVB rays. It can also help soothe and heal sensitive skin types.

AXIS-Y emphasizes the no-stress aspect of this product, they have worked hard on creating a lightweight physical sunscreen that can moisturize and calm any sun-exposed skin.

AXIS-Y is focused on oily and acne-prone skin type, so this product was calibrated to minimize the pore-clogging.

If you have oily skin, live in a hot and humid place, and love protecting the environment, this might be a sunscreen you’d want to check out.

2. Ingredients

I’m sure by now you are curious about the ingredients in AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen. AXIS-Y uses a variety of powerful ingredients to get the most desirable effects.

The power ingredient of this suncream is mugwort; this is a popular ingredient in Korean skincare and medicine; according to AXIS-Y mugwort helps reduce the heat at the skin surface and improves elasticity and radiance.

It also contains calendula a beautiful flower related to marigolds. Calendula has anti-inflammatory effects and is used for healing wounds and burns.

Another natural ingredient in the sunblock is grape which allows the cream to make a protective film on the skin.

Green Tea is also listed as an ingredient; popular in Korean skincare, green tea is considered to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effects among other health benefits.

To reduce the skin reaction and sensitivity from sun exposure, AXIS-Y sunscreen also contains chamomile.

To fight the free radical, squalane is used in the formula. It’s a natural emollient that can fight skin damage.

Another healing ingredient in AXIS-Y’s physical sunscreen is allantoin which gives you smoother skin and battles premature aging. Some studies suggest that allantoin improves the wound healing process by controlling the body’s inflammatory response.

SYN-COLL is AXIS-Y’s patented skincare technology that is used for creating the Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen Review. This technology promotes collagen-1 synthesis, protects the skin collagen against stress, helps with the synthesis of hyaluronic acid in aged fibroblasts, and helps the synthesis of Laminin V. According to AXIS-Y, thanks to this patented technology, the healing effects on the skin will be visible as fast as 4 weeks.

3. Texture & Smell

The sunscreen doesn’t really have a scent apart from the typical sunscreen scent, but even that is very vague. As the tube has a very small nozzle, only small amounts of sunscreen come out. The texture is very soft and very easy to spread. Even a small amount of sunscreen goes a long way and doesn’t leave any white cast.

5. Packaging

The packaging of the AXIS-Y sunscreen is beautiful, clean, and minimalist chic. The AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen comes in white tubes of 50 mL / 1.69 fl oz and the minimalist design is complemented with a green stripe. The tube cap allows it to stand upside down, meaning it’ll be easier to get the cream out of the tube.

Each tube comes enclosed in a similarly minimalist and chic white colored box with green details.

6. Personal Review

Before trying the AXIS-Y sunscreen I was using Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence and the Klairs Mid Day Blue UV Shield. Both of these sunscreens are vegan and cruelty-free as well. I definitely prefer the texture and scent of the AXIS-Y sunscreen over the sunscreens of Klairs. It is easier to spread, goes a long way and doesn’t leave any white cast. Price wise, they are very similar but Klairs sunscreen contains 80ml instead of 50 ml.

What I really appreciate about the AXIS-Y sunscreen is the dispensing nozzle. It is easy to control how much sunscreen comes out and the nozzle has a transparent plastic cap on it which makes it easy to see the sunscreen coming out.

The tube is the perfect size to carry around in your bag and to use as a top up sunscreen during the day.

How To Use Axis-Y Sunscreen

When you use sunscreen, it’s important to apply it before getting exposed to the sun, even if it’s for a small amount of time.

After cleansing your skin, apply a nice layer of the cream to your face and pat it until it’s evenly distributed. It’s a good idea to apply the cream to your ears and neck as well. Touching up with mineral-based powders with SPF throughout the day can help assure you get long-lasting protection from harmful rays.

In the case of the physical sunscreens, it might be a good idea to give the tube a shake before each use; this will assure the minerals are distributed evenly and counters possible consistency change.
