This hotel is the highest rated hanok in Seoul and is absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in winter and and the rooms were very warm and cozy. We stayed in the smallest room as the rest of the hotel was fully booked, that was a bit tight, but the big rooms are super spacious and have huge beds.

If you let the hotel know that you’re traveling with a young child or baby, they can prepare a special breakfast for you kid and even take care of your baby while you are eating.

There are not as many facilities in the area as in Myeongdong or Insadong, so make sure to have dinner before heading back to the hotel.

Sleeping in a Korean hanok hotel is completely different that sleeping in any other kind of accommodation. First of all, you will not find a bed. You need to be prepared to sleep on the floor; I know we Europeans are too spoiled when it comes to beds. But it’s actually not so bad, after sleeping on the floor a couple of times, I started to enjoy it. In the room or one of the cupboards, you will find blankets and thick mats, which you then arrange into a bed!

Secondly, Korean hanok stay houses have amazing floor heating, called ondol! It is a traditional heating system that is still used in most Korean houses! Koreans are used to sitting, sleeping and eating on the floor. And to be honest, now that I’m living with ondol, I never want to go without anymore.

This guesthouse is a modernized version of a hanok; which means a modern kitchen and bathroom! The living room is grant, with everything provided for if you’re planning on cooking yourself.  The bathroom was quite small, but very clean! And my god, the shower! I love showers with massive shower heads, it feels like standing under a warm waterfall filled with love! This is one of the best traditional hanok guesthouse in Seoul I have stayed in.

If you’re up for the full Korean experience and want to travel back in time in the heart of Seoul but still want your comfort; this is the perfect place! Garosugil Area

Garosugil, which surprisingly means “lined trees” (as you won’t find any trees nowadays, except for those stinky gingko trees). An area that became popular back in 1980 with the rise of art galleries in the neighbourhood, made world famous from the Korean dramas and K-pop songs.

Garosugil Homestay is located in the more residential area of Gangnam; a short walk away from the closest subway station Apgujeong.

What I liked about the place was that it is located on the top floor of an apartment block, which has a great view all over Seoul. I had an instant homey feeling upon entering, the spacious kitchen and living room are nicely decorated. The extremely spacious apartment has one female room only which included a private bathroom, 2 beds, one sofa bed, a massive TV and a small office with a desk, fridge and wardrobes. I even received my own cute cotton pajamas!

The room has air-conditioning, heated blankets, towels, free toiletries, a hair dryer, some snacks (pot noodles) and drinks. I stayed here 2 nights and loved it!

The breakfast is included when booking a room here and you will not be disappointed! I opted for the American breakfast (yes, you can also choose the Korean or Japanese breakfast), with an egg, salad, meat, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, juice and toast!

Practical Details

If you are a female solo traveler or are travelling with another female friend this place is perfect for you! With the location, the owner Rosemary, the breakfast and a booking.com score of 9.9; you don’t need to think twice about staying here! The price is extremely reasonable, starting at 60 000 won (60$) a night.
