The Gyeongju Craft Village is located just outside Gyeongju
, between Bulguksa
Temple and Bomun lake. The village hosts a couple of small museums including “The Master Craft Museum”.
The museum is a little tricky to find as it is hidden at the back of an Amethyst Shop (고려자수전전문점). This private collection includes splendid Art and Furniture of the great Korean Masters.
The museum is only accessible when accompanied by a guide, who is very knowledgeable about the many exhibits. You can take the guided tour in English and Korean and will take around an hour.
The museum consists of two floors; the first floor contains mainly paintings, small furniture, woodwork and random artifacts, while the second floor shows rooms with life size dolls in daily household situations.
One room only contains North Korean art and furniture, you can see that this is different that the South Korean rooms as there is more simplicity in the works.
At the back of the museum you can enter the small garden which also has some small exhibits and a mini Cheomseongdae Observatory.
Direction: the museum is located in the Folk Craft Village of Gyeongju and is a little tricky to find. From Gyeongju Bus Terminal, you can take bus 10, 11, 700 towards Bulguksa Temple
(불국사). Get off at Gyeongju Folk Craft Village bus stop. The bus ride should take around 30 minutes and cost 1500 won.
